Socom 4 BBR vs 33rd Brigade redux

Well last night was a Wednesday night. While there has been quite a hiatus on BBR vs33rd Brigade Wednesday's over the last 6 months or so. Last night it made a triumphant return. Boy did it feel good to see all the names and here all those voices.
In lieu of a functioning party system we opted to create a non ranked room and then over the XMB I messaged everyone to join the room. Wasn't perfect, but it worked. A few major oversights by Zipper in terms of the non ranked created rooms is that there is no way to create a medley. At least from what I could tell. So create a room it only has one map per created room. If you want to play another map, someone has to create another room. Not the easiest but we made it work.
We played some Uplink, Last Defense and Bomb Squad and at one point I could 20 people in the room. I opted to not set the rooms up in Classic mode as people are still trying to acclimate to the maps. With that said in a few weeks once everyone has cut their teeth, I believe Classic BBR vs 33rd is going to feel... well Classic.
Socom 4 is not a perfect game. That is an understatement. It has some glaring problems. I will admit that as most will. It was not completed upon release and that is quite unfortunate. With that said, I heard a number of both 33rd and BBR players talking with elation about being together and gaming on Socom again. I was like a kid in the candy store mostly fueled by a few beers and maybe some tequila but nonetheless I was truly excited. More so than I have been about any game quite frankly sinceConfrontation. While other games maybe more graphically pretty, completed upon release, better UI, etc... None capture that community experience the way that Socomdoes. The objective based maps still required a great amount of teamwork and communication and it was there. That was awesome to see and hear.
We had some 33rd recruits joins us for the fun which was nice. A big welcome to both Bigg Tugg rocking his Gorman skin ( which caught me by surprise ) fragging people left and right and Tuskegee Black who was tearing it up with both his knife as well as his Assault rifle.
We also has the BBR/33rd Vets Bones, Nascar, DB, Dmoney, Guts, Paragon, Lethal Jay, Beast, and more on the 33rd side and Buck, Horrorshow, Warchi and more representingBBR. Apologies to those not mentioned, Jose Cuervo has jogged my memory a little. Last night was a major step in the right direction in my opinion and for this gamer it was the first time Socom 4 felt like home again. I know that may sound lame or cliche but it is the truth.
Here's hoping the Zipper can patch some of the issues in a timely manner and I look forward to many nights running along side all of you.

BLIZZARD...A.A.R. for 2-10-10

TO: SECNAV
FROM: 33rd Brigade
RE: After Action Report 2-10-10

BLIZZARD WARNING!

As the National Weather Service issued a “Holy crap it’s snowing like crazy in the Northeast” warning, the 33rd Brigade and its ally clan BBR stirred up their own SOCOM Blizzard! The snow came as predicted (29 plus inches in Pittsburgh) but it did not stop the weekly shovel fest that is 33rd vs BBR! Looking for refuge from the dreaded metal snow pusher and the resulting back aches, members of the 33rd and BBR did what they do best...play SOCOM! Familiar faces, familiar camaraderie and familiar MVP’s (come on Guts...give someone else a turn!) proved to be all the warmth that was needed to fuel the fires of fun! The eastern seaboard was debilitated by a blinding snowstorm, but luckily none of the 33rd members were debilitated by Riverman’s errant grenade storms! Frostfire, our new warm-up board, has proven to be a fun way to loosen the trigger finger and focus the crosshairs! The “shooting fish in a barrel” simile used by the actual SEALS in the SOCOM commercial proved to be true on this board as 32 guys ran around blasting everything that moved. New boards followed, but the same fun factor remained! The BBR roster was a little short, so several 33rd members joined them for some cross-teamed excitement...thanks for killing me so many times, Hizzer! Can’t a guy snipe in peace? The night’s fragging aptly ended with the board Blizzard. As I peered through my high scope trying to find targets, I was thankful that the snow was only digital and not adding to the piles on either side of my driveway. The real snow did fall again last night, so shoveling is on the menu for today...there is better weather on the horizon, and if not, there is BBR vs. 33rd next Wednesday...the National Gaming Service has forecast FUN!

The State of 33rd Union…A.A.R. for 1-27-10

The New Year has officially used one month of it’s extended warranty, and there has been loads of action to report after the fact.

The New Year saw the advent of many new things…the MAG Beta, COD MW2 and Coldfront Map Pack just to name a few. In the wake of new games, holidays, busy schedules, college, website overhauls, engagements, building playhouses, Australia, and more website overhauls, one thing remained solidly constant…THE 33RD BRIGADE! Week in and week out, the Brigade has populated TATT rooms and BBR rooms. Attendance may have flickered on occasion, but it never went out entirely. In this ever-changing world filled with distractions, the weekly meeting of the most respected gaming community in the world brought order to the chaos and provided a place for brothers and sisters to bond and enjoy each other’s company.

This past Wednesday was no different. At 10:00 PM Eastern Standard Time the familiar words began populating the location lines all across the XMB…East1: BBRvs33rd. And, like so many Wednesdays before, “Room’s up” messages were disseminated. Wednesday’s BBR scrimmage had an overwhelming number of 33rd Brigade members in it, and that shows the state of our clan to be strong. New maps, great BBR friends, and the ever-present accidental team kill (Sorry, Blind!) continue to make Wednesday a night that all of us look forward too!

Many of us have seen our one year anniversary with the 33rd Brigade come and go as we watch new recruits, freshly inducted into our brotherhood, begin to work their way towards their 365 day tenure. To those new members, welcome! We have been here for some time now, and we will continue to be here into the future. That is truly a triumph. Better than a tactical nuke or some digital trophy, the real prestige is the endurance of our clan and the friendships that it has spawned. So, take a moment, read or reread the 33rd Brigade morals and respect them as they have led us this far. Above all remember…

Non mihi…non tibi…sed nobis

Not for me…not for you…but for us!
